Social and Emotional Learning

MindUP

All ACT public schools are required to implement a social and emotional learning curriculum. After careful consideration of several options, we have incorporated the MindUP curriculum, introduced in most of our classrooms last year.

The MindUP curriculum teaches social and emotional learning skills drawing on cognitive neuroscience, positive psychology and mindful awareness training. The program is comprised of 15 topics in which students are taught to self-regulate behaviour and mindfully engage in focused concentration required for academic success. Each topic offers easy strategies for helping students focus their attention, improve their self-regulation skills, build resilience to stress, and develop a positive mind-set in both school and life.

All classes, Preschool to Year 6 will be focusing on a topic for a period of three weeks. Whilst teachers develop age appropriate learning experiences, having all classes focusing on the same topic will assist you with conversations with your child during this time.
